Aquila Private Game Reserve

Also recommended for FIRST TIME SAFARI tourists or groups with children aged 6-16.

Founded over 14 years ago by Searle Damon, the reserve is a TWO hour drive from Cape Town at a higher altitude characterised by open scrubland and dry terrain typical of the Karoo part of the country.

Game drives are in the morning at 10am and in the afternoon at 130pm.   A buffet lunch is included

Temperatures are extremely high in Summer and can be very cold in mid-Winter.   It is possible to see 4 of the Big 5 here, but that is never guarenteed because these animals are wild, of course.

They have the same collection of animals on their estate, but in addition they have a cheetah enclosure.

The lions are kept in a separate part of the reserve to allow for animal populations to flourish.

Searle is at the fore front of raising funds to protect rhinoceros because, at the current rate of poaching, the animal will be extinct before 2022.   You can read about his fund-raising project at www.savingprivaterhino.org

If you would like to stay overnight somewhere that is not more than 3.5 hours from Cape Town, then we would recommend the exclusive Sanbona resort.   We can drop you there and then fetch you the next day after your safari experience.
And if you are on a budget, then this is probably your best bet for an overnight trip.  4 hours drive East of Cape Town.
Actually this resort is situated at the start of the Garden Route, so you would easily add this to your Garden Route itinerary if you were heading in that direction….
